Stats

Some of the most interesting information in thePlayer Registry Companion Registry is also some of the hardest to find. Luckily, these dashboards can help! They compile broad data from across all teams to help you get a better understanding of the entire player pool.

OVR Distribution by Team
Loading...

The OVR Distribution chart shows the distribution of player (a)OVRs for any number of teams.

Useful for identifying which teams have stronger pools of players to draw from. If the bulk of the players are on the right of the graph (i.e. have higher OVRs), that team is likely to be stronger.

The graph anchors at a minimum of 48 and a maximum of 84 to ensure that every team has a column for every possible OVR value, regardless of whether it actually has any players with that OVR. This makes it easier to compare different teams.

Median OVR by Team
Loading...

The Median OVR by Team chart shows the middle-point OVR of all players for each team. You can choose whether to filter by Base OVR or by the Companion's aOVR.

For the math-impaired among us, the median is the middle-value in a set of numbers. In this case, it's more accurate than the average (aka mean) because it is less likely to be skewed by outliers on the edges of the dataset.

The chart filters include an option to shorten the y axis. Bar graphs typically start at 0, but because there isn't much variance in this data, a shorter axis can make the differences stand out more.

Card Counts

We all know some teams are more well-endowed than others in this game... Dashboards in this section highlight those differences.

Special Cards by Team

This powerful widget gives you a broad analysis of special cards (i.e. non-Regulars) across all teams.

You can apply various filters to narrow the scope of the chart and re-sort to focus on the data you care about. You can even highlight your team (or any combination of teams) to make it easier to spot them, especially after sorting.

Click on a bar segment to see the number of cards for that segment as well as the total for all special cards for that team.

About the Registry

The Companion Registry contains all the cards currently in the game, and quite a few more that aren't. The list of active cards is compiled using publicly-available data from MLB 9 Innings and is updated shortly after each in-game update. Most stat and player info data is recorded manually on this site.

Stat Acquisition By Year
Loading...

This chart shows the percentage of cards that have stats per year. Vintage cards and cards from the early-2000s (typically regular versions of Sigs) are lumped into separate groups while recent years have their own columns.

Live Stats

During the regular season, the Player Registry will be updated frequently to track in-game card availability. But stats for Live cards will not be added until after the regular season. This is because stats change too frequently to reliably track during the Live Season.

Once stats are locked for the season, a large push will be made to add all of them in. Help out by searching for your favorite players and sending in their stats!

Stat Sources

The main purpose of the Registry is to compile all of the cards in the game and all of their stats. Obviously this allows us to reference cards we don't have, but it also allows me to build tools that utilize that data, such as generating GIs in the Sandbox or automatically determining the best possible lineup for any team.

When the Registry first launched, a large portion of the stats came from an existing player registry run by folks on the subreddit. It also received large infusions from two individual redditors. Since launch though, almost all stats added to the Companion Registry have been from me, the Companion developer, or from user-submissions on the site.

User-submitted stats are a huge help to the usefulness of the Registry! Cards without stats will have a button on them directing you to the form for submitting the stats. If you spot them in the wild, please send them in!

All dashboards update automatically as new players and stats are added to the Registry.(...)
